Custard Chocolate Dessert

Ingredients

  • 2 cups milk (whole or low-fat)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup dark chocolate (chopped or chips)
  • A pinch of salt
  • Whipped cream (for topping, optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together the sugar, cornstarch, cocoa powder, and salt.
  2. Gradually add the milk while whisking to avoid lumps.
  3. Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Once thickened, remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and chopped chocolate. Continue stirring until the chocolate is completely melted and the custard is smooth.
  5. Pour the custard into serving cups or bowls.
  6. Let the custard cool slightly, then refrigerate for at least 1-2 hours to set.
  7. Once set, top with whipped cream (optional) and serve.
