Ingredients
- 1 sheet of puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)
- 4 slices of ham (preferably thinly sliced)
- 4 slices of Gruyère cheese (or Swiss cheese)
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Prepare Pastry: Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut it into 4 rectangles large enough to wrap around the filling.
- Assemble: Place a slice of ham and a slice of Gruyère cheese in the center of each pastry rectangle. Add a small dollop of Dijon mustard on top of the cheese, then season with salt and pepper.
- Fold Pastry: Fold the pastry over the filling, sealing the edges with a pinch. You can also brush the edges with a bit of water to help seal.
- Egg Wash: Brush the top of the pastry with the melted butter and egg wash for a golden, crispy finish.
- Bake: Place the pastries on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown and puffed up.
- Serve: Allow the pastries to cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy the delicious Croque Monsieur Pastries warm with a side salad if you like!
