Ingredients
- 6-8 medium apples (such as Gala, Honeycrisp, or Fuji), peeled, cored, and chopped
- 1/4 cup water or apple juice
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
- 1/4 cup sweetener (sugar, honey, or maple syrup – adjust to taste)
Instructions
- Prepare the Apples: Peel, core, and chop the apples into small chunks. Place them into the slow cooker.
- Add Liquid and Spices: Pour in the water (or apple juice) and lemon juice. If using, add cinnamon, nutmeg, and sweetener.
- Cook: Cover and cook on low for 4-6 hours, or on high for 2-3 hours, until the apples are very soft.
- Mash the Apples: Once the apples are soft, use a potato masher or immersion blender to mash the apples to your desired texture. For a smooth sauce, blend completely.
- Taste and Adjust: Taste the applesauce and add more sweetener or spices if needed.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the applesauce to cool before serving. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.
