Ingredients
For Mozzarella Sticks:
- 12 mozzarella string cheese sticks (or a block cut into sticks)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1 ½ cups breadcrumbs (Italian-style or plain with seasoning)
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon salt
- Vegetable oil for frying
For Marinara Sauce:
- 1 cup canned crushed tomatoes
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- ½ teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt & pepper to taste
- Fresh basil (optional)
For Creamy Dip:
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- ¼ cup sour cream
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Chopped chives or parsley (optional)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Cheese
- Freeze mozzarella sticks for 1–2 hours until solid. This prevents them from melting too fast when frying.
Step 2: Set Up Breading Station
- In three separate bowls:
- Bowl 1: Flour
- Bowl 2: Whisked eggs and milk
- Bowl 3: Breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder, paprika, and salt
- Dip each frozen mozzarella stick in flour, then egg, then breadcrumbs.
- For extra crunch, repeat the egg and breadcrumb steps once more (double coating).
- Place coated sticks back in the freezer for 30 minutes.
Step 3: Fry the Mozzarella Sticks
- Heat oil in a deep skillet (about 350°F / 175°C).
- Fry a few sticks at a time until golden brown (about 1–2 minutes).
- Drain on paper towels.
Step 4: Make Marinara Sauce
- In a small saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat.
- Sauté garlic for 30 seconds, then add crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, and pepper.
- Simmer for 10–15 minutes. Stir occasionally. Add fresh basil if desired.
Step 5: Make Creamy Dip
- Mix mayo, sour cream, lemon juice, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
- Add herbs if using. Chill before serving.
To Serve:
Serve the crispy mozzarella sticks hot with warm marinara sauce and the creamy dip on the side.
