Crispy Mozzarella Sticks with Marinara Sauce & Creamy Dip

Ingredients

  • 12 mozzarella string cheese sticks
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1½ cups Italian-style breadcrumbs
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)

For Serving:

  • 1 cup marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • ½ cup ranch dressing or your favorite creamy dip

Instructions

  1. Prep the Cheese: Unwrap the mozzarella sticks and cut them in half if you want bite-size pieces. Place them on a tray and freeze for about 30–45 minutes. This helps keep the cheese from melting too quickly when frying.
  2. Prepare Breading Stations:
    • Place flour in one shallow bowl.
    • In another bowl, whisk eggs and milk together.
    • In a third bowl, combine breadcrumbs, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, salt, and pepper.
  3. Coat the Sticks: Roll each frozen mozzarella stick in flour, then dip into the egg mixture, then coat in breadcrumbs. For an extra-crispy crust, dip again in egg and breadcrumbs for a double coating.
  4. Heat the Oil: Pour about 2 inches of oil into a deep pan or pot and heat to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Fry: Carefully fry a few sticks at a time until golden brown, about 1–2 minutes. Don’t overcrowd the pan. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel–lined plate.
  6. Serve: Serve hot with warm marinara sauce and a creamy dip on the side.
