Ingredients
- 12 mozzarella string cheese sticks
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1½ cups Italian-style breadcrumbs
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt & pepper to taste
- Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
For Serving:
- 1 cup marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- ½ cup ranch dressing or your favorite creamy dip
Instructions
- Prep the Cheese: Unwrap the mozzarella sticks and cut them in half if you want bite-size pieces. Place them on a tray and freeze for about 30–45 minutes. This helps keep the cheese from melting too quickly when frying.
- Prepare Breading Stations:
- Place flour in one shallow bowl.
- In another bowl, whisk eggs and milk together.
- In a third bowl, combine breadcrumbs, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, salt, and pepper.
- Coat the Sticks: Roll each frozen mozzarella stick in flour, then dip into the egg mixture, then coat in breadcrumbs. For an extra-crispy crust, dip again in egg and breadcrumbs for a double coating.
- Heat the Oil: Pour about 2 inches of oil into a deep pan or pot and heat to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry: Carefully fry a few sticks at a time until golden brown, about 1–2 minutes. Don’t overcrowd the pan. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel–lined plate.
- Serve: Serve hot with warm marinara sauce and a creamy dip on the side.
