Ingredients
- 12 mozzarella string cheese sticks (cut into 1-inch pieces)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs (beaten)
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1 ½ cups Italian-style breadcrumbs
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- ½ teaspoon paprika (optional)
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- Marinara sauce, for dipping
Instructions
- Prep the Cheese:
Cut each string cheese stick into bite-sized pieces and place them in the freezer for about 30 minutes. This helps prevent them from melting too quickly while frying. - Set Up Dredging Station:
- In one bowl: add flour.
- In second bowl: whisk eggs with milk.
- In third bowl: combine breadcrumbs, garlic powder, and paprika (if using).
- Coat the Cheese:
Dip each frozen cheese piece into the flour, then into the egg mixture, and finally into the breadcrumbs. For extra crispiness, repeat the egg and breadcrumb step again. - Fry the Bites:
Heat oil in a deep pan over medium-high heat (about 350°F or 175°C). Fry the bites in small batches until golden brown and crispy, about 1–2 minutes. Do not overcrowd. - Drain & Serve:
Remove with a slotted spoon and place on a paper towel-lined plate. Serve hot with warm marinara sauce.
Tip:
For a healthier option, you can air-fry or bake them at 400°F (200°C) for 8–10 minutes, flipping halfway through.
