Ingredients
- 12 mozzarella string cheese sticks (or mozzarella block, cut into bite-sized pieces)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1½ cups Italian-style breadcrumbs (or panko for extra crunch)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano (optional)
- Salt & black pepper, to taste
- Oil, for frying (vegetable or canola)
Instructions
- Prep the cheese: Cut the string cheese into bite-sized pieces (about 1-inch). Place them on a tray and freeze for at least 30 minutes — this helps prevent melting too fast while frying.
- Set up breading stations: Place the flour in one shallow bowl. In a second bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk. In a third bowl, combine breadcrumbs, garlic powder, oregano, salt, and pepper.
- Bread the cheese: Working with a few pieces at a time, dredge each mozzarella piece in flour (shake off excess), dip into the egg wash, then coat in breadcrumbs. For extra crispiness, dip back in the egg and breadcrumbs again.
- Freeze again (optional but recommended): Place the breaded cheese bites back in the freezer for 10–15 minutes to help them hold their shape.
- Heat oil: In a deep skillet or pot, heat about 2 inches of oil to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry: Fry the mozzarella bites in batches for about 1–2 minutes until golden brown. Do not overcrowd the pan.
- Drain: Remove and drain on a paper towel–lined plate.
- Serve: Serve immediately with warm marinara sauce or your favorite dip — and enjoy that epic cheese pull! 😍🧀
