Crispy Mozzarella Bites — Cheese Pulls Just Got Better

Ingredients

  • 12 mozzarella string cheese sticks (cut into 1-inch pieces)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs (beaten)
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 ½ cups Italian-style breadcrumbs
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon paprika (optional)
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Marinara sauce, for dipping

Instructions

  1. Prep the Cheese:
Cut each string cheese stick into bite-sized pieces and place them in the freezer for about 30 minutes. This helps prevent them from melting too quickly while frying.
  2. Set Up Dredging Station:
    • In one bowl: add flour.
    • In second bowl: whisk eggs with milk.
    • In third bowl: combine breadcrumbs, garlic powder, and paprika (if using).
  3. Coat the Cheese:
Dip each frozen cheese piece into the flour, then into the egg mixture, and finally into the breadcrumbs. For extra crispiness, repeat the egg and breadcrumb step again.
  4. Fry the Bites:
Heat oil in a deep pan over medium-high heat (about 350°F or 175°C). Fry the bites in small batches until golden brown and crispy, about 1–2 minutes. Do not overcrowd.
  5. Drain & Serve:
Remove with a slotted spoon and place on a paper towel-lined plate. Serve hot with warm marinara sauce.

Tip:
For a healthier option, you can air-fry or bake them at 400°F (200°C) for 8–10 minutes, flipping halfway through.
