Crispy Mozzarella Bites — Cheese Pulls Just Got Better

Ingredients

  • 12 mozzarella string cheese sticks (or mozzarella block, cut into bite-sized pieces)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1½ cups Italian-style breadcrumbs (or panko for extra crunch)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano (optional)
  • Salt & black pepper, to taste
  • Oil, for frying (vegetable or canola)

Instructions

  1. Prep the cheese: Cut the string cheese into bite-sized pieces (about 1-inch). Place them on a tray and freeze for at least 30 minutes — this helps prevent melting too fast while frying.
  2. Set up breading stations: Place the flour in one shallow bowl. In a second bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk. In a third bowl, combine breadcrumbs, garlic powder, oregano, salt, and pepper.
  3. Bread the cheese: Working with a few pieces at a time, dredge each mozzarella piece in flour (shake off excess), dip into the egg wash, then coat in breadcrumbs. For extra crispiness, dip back in the egg and breadcrumbs again.
  4. Freeze again (optional but recommended): Place the breaded cheese bites back in the freezer for 10–15 minutes to help them hold their shape.
  5. Heat oil: In a deep skillet or pot, heat about 2 inches of oil to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Fry: Fry the mozzarella bites in batches for about 1–2 minutes until golden brown. Do not overcrowd the pan.
  7. Drain: Remove and drain on a paper towel–lined plate.
  8. Serve: Serve immediately with warm marinara sauce or your favorite dip — and enjoy that epic cheese pull! 😍🧀
