Ingredients
For the Chicken:
- 1 ½ lbs boneless chicken thighs or breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1 cup cornstarch
- 2 eggs, beaten
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Oil, for frying
For the Honey Garlic Sauce:
- ½ cup honey
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- ¼ cup soy sauce (low sodium if preferred)
- 2 tbsp rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar
- 1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water (optional, for thickening)
- ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional, for a little heat)
Instructions
- Prep the Chicken:
Season chicken pieces with salt and pepper.
Dredge each piece in cornstarch, dip into beaten eggs, and coat again with cornstarch for extra crispiness. - Fry the Chicken:
Heat oil in a large skillet or deep fryer over medium-high heat.
Fry chicken in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 5–6 minutes per batch.
Drain on a paper towel–lined plate. - Make the Sauce:
In a saucepan over medium heat, combine honey, soy sauce, garlic, vinegar, and red pepper flakes.
Bring to a gentle simmer.
If you want a thicker sauce, stir in the cornstarch-water slurry and simmer until thickened. - Coat the Chicken:
Toss the crispy chicken in the warm honey garlic sauce until well coated. - Serve:
Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds, if desired.
Serve hot over steamed rice or with stir-fried vegetables.
