Ingredients
▸ 300g fresh button mushrooms (cleaned and patted dry)
▸ 4 cloves garlic (minced)
▸ 1 cup all-purpose flour
▸ 1 cup breadcrumbs (panko for extra crispiness)
▸ 2 large eggs
▸ 1 teaspoon onion powder
▸ 1 teaspoon paprika
▸ ½ teaspoon black pepper
▸ ½ teaspoon salt
▸ ½ teaspoon dried oregano
▸ 2 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese (optional)
▸ 1 tablespoon olive oil or melted butter (for garlic sauté)
▸ Vegetable oil for frying or spray oil for baking
▸ Fresh parsley (for garnish)
▸ Your favorite dipping sauce (garlic mayo, spicy aioli, ranch, etc.)
Instructions
- Prepare the Mushrooms
Gently clean the mushrooms with a damp paper towel. Remove stems if desired, or leave them whole if small. Pat dry completely—moist mushrooms won’t crisp up well. - Sauté the Garlic
In a small pan, heat olive oil over low-medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until golden and fragrant, about 1–2 minutes. Set aside to cool slightly. This garlic oil will infuse your mushrooms with flavor before coating. - Create the Dredging Station
Set up three bowls. In the first, combine flour with salt, pepper, paprika, onion powder, and oregano. In the second, beat the eggs thoroughly. In the third, mix breadcrumbs with parmesan cheese (if using). - Coat the Mushrooms
First, lightly toss the mushrooms in the garlic oil mixture to ensure the flavor adheres to the surface. Then dredge each mushroom in the seasoned flour, dip into the egg wash, and finally coat evenly with the breadcrumb mixture. For extra crunch, you can double dip: repeat egg and breadcrumb steps. - Fry or Bake the Bites
To fry: Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C). Fry mushrooms in batches, turning occasionally, until golden brown and crispy—about 3–4 minutes. Do not overcrowd the pan.
To bake: Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Place coated mushrooms on a parchment-lined baking tray. Lightly spray with oil. Bake for 18–22 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and crisp.
Optional: Air fryer works great too—cook at 375°F (190°C) for 10–12 minutes. - Drain and Cool
Once cooked, transfer mushroom bites to a plate lined with paper towels to remove excess oil. Let cool for a couple of minutes for the coating to firm up and crunch. - Serve and Garnish
Sprinkle freshly chopped parsley over the crispy bites. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce on the side. A squeeze of lemon also adds a fresh zing.
