Ingredients
- 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
- 1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 cups (480ml) whole milk
- ½ cup (120g) unsalted butter
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8-inch (20cm) square or round baking dish.
- In a mixing bowl, beat the eggs and sugar together until the mixture becomes light and fluffy.
- Add in the vanilla extract, then slowly stir in the flour until just combined—do not overmix.
- In a small saucepan, heat the milk and butter together until the butter melts. Do not boil. Let it cool for 2–3 minutes.
- Gradually pour the warm milk mixture into the batter, whisking continuously until smooth.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and bake for 35–40 minutes or until the top is golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool slightly. Serve warm or chilled, optionally dusted with powdered sugar or topped with fresh berries!
