Instructions
- Prepare the Puff Pastry:
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Roll out puff pastry on a lightly floured surface.
- Cut into squares or rectangles as desired.
- Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Whisk the egg with water and brush lightly over the tops for a golden finish.
- Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until golden and puffed.
- Let cool, then gently slice open for filling.
- Make the Custard:
- In a saucepan, whisk together sugar, cornstarch, and egg yolks.
- Gradually add milk while whisking continuously to avoid lumps.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens (about 5–7 minutes).
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla and butter until smooth.
- Let cool slightly, then refrigerate for 30–60 minutes for a firmer texture.
- Assemble the Delight:
- Spoon or pipe the chilled custard into the cooled puff pastry shells.
- Dust with powdered sugar and top with fruit or drizzle as desired.
