Creamy Caramel Custard Pie Recipe

Ingredients:

  • For the Custard:
    • 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk  
    • 3 large eggs
    • 1 cup heavy cream
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract  
    • Pinch of salt
  • For the Caramel Sauce:
    • 1 cup granulated sugar
    • 1/4 cup water
    • 1/4 cup butter
    • 1/4 cup heavy cream

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Caramel Sauce: * In a small saucepan, combine sugar and water. * Cook over medium heat, swirling the pan occasionally, until the sugar dissolves and the mixture turns a deep amber color. * Remove from heat immediately and carefully stir in butter. * Stir in heavy cream slowly and carefully, as it will bubble vigorously. * Let the caramel sauce cool slightly before using.

2. Prepare the Custard Filling: * Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C). * In a large bowl, whisk together sweetened condensed milk, eggs, heavy cream, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth.

3. Assemble and Bake: * Pour the caramel sauce evenly into the bottom of a 9-inch pie dish. * Slowly pour the custard mixture over the caramel sauce. * Place the pie dish in a water bath: Place the pie dish in a larger baking dish and carefully pour hot water into the larger dish until it reaches about halfway up the sides of the pie dish. * Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until the center of the custard is just set. The edges will be slightly set, but the center will still jiggle slightly. * Remove the pie dish from the water bath and let it cool completely on a wire rack. * Refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, before serving.
