Ingredients

  • For the Casserole:
  • 1 lb (450 g) ribeye or sirloin steak, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 4 medium potatoes, peeled and sliced thinly
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • For Topping:
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven:
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  1. Sauté Steak:
  • In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Add the steak pieces and garlic. Season with smoked paprika, salt, pepper, oregano, and thyme. Sear the steak until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat.
  1. Layer Ingredients:
  • In a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes on the bottom.
  • Spread half of the sautéed steak mixture over the potatoes.
  • Sprinkle with half of the shredded cheese.
  • Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, steak, and cheese.
  1. Add Broth:
  • Pour the beef broth evenly over the top of the casserole.
  1. Bake:
  • Cover the casserole with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  1. Serve:
  • Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired. Serve warm.
