Condensed Milk Bread or Sweet Milk Bread

Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups (320g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 ¼ tsp (1 packet) instant yeast
  • ¼ cup (60ml) sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 tbsp (30g) sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup (120ml) warm milk
  • 3 tbsp (45g) unsalted butter, softened

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add egg, sweetened condensed milk, and salt. Mix well.
  3. Gradually add flour and mix to form a soft dough.
  4. Knead in the softened butter until the dough is smooth and elastic (about 10 minutes by hand or 5 minutes with a stand mixer).
  5. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf or rolls as desired. Place in a greased loaf pan or baking dish.
  7. Cover and let rise again for about 30–45 minutes.
  8. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  9. Brush the top with a little extra milk or beaten egg for shine.
  10. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  11. Let cool slightly before slicing. Enjoy warm or at room temperature!
