Classic Grilled Cheese Sandwich Recipe

A simple yet satisfying recipe for the perfect golden-brown, gooey grilled cheese sandwich.

Ingredients:

  • 2 slices of your favorite bread (white, sourdough, whole wheat, etc.)
  • 1-2 tablespoons butter, softened (or mayonnaise for an alternative)
  • 2-3 slices of cheese (cheddar, American, Monterey Jack, mozzarella, or a blend)
  • Optional:
    • A sprinkle of garlic powder or onion powder
    • A thin spread of Dijon mustard or mayonnaise inside
    • A few slices of tomato or caramelized onions

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Bread:
    • Lay the bread slices on a clean surface.
    • Spread softened butter (or mayonnaise) evenly on one side of each slice.
  2. Assemble the Sandwich:
    • Flip one slice of bread over, butter-side down.
    • Layer the cheese slices on top of the bread.
    • Optional: if using any additional spices, mustard, or mayonnaise, spread them on the cheese, or the other slice of bread.
    • Place the remaining slice of bread on top, butter-side up.
  3. Grill the Sandwich:
    • Heat a skillet or griddle over medium-low heat.
    • Place the assembled sandwich in the hot skillet.
    • Cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and the cheese is melted and gooey.
    • Optional: For even melting you can cover the pan with a lid, this will create steam to help melt the cheese.
  4. Serve and Enjoy:
    • Remove the grilled cheese sandwich from the skillet and place it on a plate.
    • Let it cool slightly before slicing and serving.
    • Optional: Serve with tomato soup, pickles, or your favorite dipping sauce.
