Chocolate Ooey Gooey Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 box of chocolate cake mix
  • 1/2 cup of melted butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 8 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cake Base:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • In a mixing bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, melted butter, and 1 egg. Stir until fully combined.
    • Pour the cake mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish and spread it evenly across the bottom.
  2. Make the Ooey Gooey Topping:
    • In another mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth.
    • Add the powdered sugar, 2 eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined and smooth.
    • Pour the cream cheese mixture over the cake batter in the baking dish. Do not mix, just spread it evenly.
  3. Add Chocolate Chips:
    • Sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the top of the cream cheese mixture.
  4. Bake the Cake:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with some moist crumbs (not fully clean). The cake should be slightly “gooey” in the middle.
  5. Cool and Serve:
    • Allow the cake to cool for at least 30 minutes before serving. It’s even better after being refrigerated for a few hours.
    • Serve it warm or cold, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream on top if desired!

Enjoy your rich, ooey gooey chocolate cake!
