Ingredients
- 1½ cups (190g) all-purpose flour
- 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
- ⅓ cup (30g) unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 tsp white or apple cider vinegar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 5 tbsp (75ml) vegetable oil
- 1 cup (240ml) water
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease an 8×8-inch (or 9×9-inch) baking pan.
- In the pan or a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Make three wells in the dry ingredients. Pour the vinegar in one, vanilla in another, and oil in the third.
- Pour the water over everything and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let cool completely before serving. Optional: dust with powdered sugar or frost with a simple chocolate glaze.
