  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup hot coffee
  • 1 cup boiling water

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Combine dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Combine wet ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla extract.
  4. Combine wet and dry ingredients: Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  5. Add hot liquids: Pour the hot coffee and boiling water into the batter and mix until just combined.
  6. Bake: Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Cool: Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before inverting them onto wire racks to cool completely.
  8. Frost: Once the cakes are completely cool, frost them with your favorite chocolate frosting.

Tips:

  • For a richer flavor, use high-quality cocoa powder.
  • To make a richer cake, you can substitute some of the buttermilk with sour cream.
  • For extra chocolate flavor, add 1/4 cup of chocolate chips to the batter.
