Chocolate Cake recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk (or milk + 1 tbsp vinegar)
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add wet ingredients: Mix in buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract. Beat until well combined.
  4. Add boiling water: Slowly stir in boiling water until the batter is smooth. It will be thin, but that’s normal.
  5. Bake: Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool: Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
