Description

A rich, moist, and fudgy chocolate cake perfect for any celebration or chocolate craving. Soft, decadent, and easy to make at home.

Ingredients

  • 1 and 3/4 cups (220g) all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup (75g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups (400g) granulated sugar
  • 1 and 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 and 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup (240ml) whole milk
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (240ml) boiling water

Optional for frosting:

  • 1/2 cup (115g) butter
  • 2/3 cup (65g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 cups (360g) powdered sugar
  • 1/3 cup (80ml) milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add wet ingredients: Beat in eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Add boiling water: Gradually mix in boiling water; batter will be thin, but that’s okay.
  5. Bake: Pour batter evenly into prepared pans. Bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool: Let cakes cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. Frosting (optional):
    • Melt butter in a saucepan, add cocoa and mix well.
    • Remove from heat, add powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla. Stir until smooth.
    • Spread frosting over cooled cake layers.

Tips

  • Use high-quality cocoa powder for the best chocolate flavor.
  • Adding boiling water helps the cake stay moist and soft.
  • Make sure cakes are completely cool before frosting to prevent melting.
  • For extra richness, brush a little coffee syrup on the cake layers before frosting.
