Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp almond extract (optional, for extra flavor)
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 (21 oz) can cherry pie filling
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract and almond extract if using.
- Gradually add the flour and salt to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Spread about 2/3 of the batter evenly into the prepared baking dish.
- Spoon the cherry pie filling evenly over the batter.
- Drop the remaining batter by small spoonfuls over the cherry filling. It won’t cover completely — that’s okay!
- Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until the top is lightly golden and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Allow to cool completely in the pan. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.
- Cut into bars, serve, and enjoy!
