Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 4 large potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes, drained
- 1/2 cup frozen peas (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tbsp olive oil
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Boil the potatoes in salted water until tender (about 15-20 minutes). Drain the water, mash the potatoes with milk and butter until smooth, and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onions and garlic, sauté until softened.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks.
- Stir in the diced tomatoes, peas (if using), paprika, salt, and pepper. Let the mixture simmer for 5-7 minutes to allow the flavors to combine.
- Transfer the beef mixture to a baking dish, spreading it evenly.
- Spoon the mashed potatoes over the beef layer, smoothing them out to cover the entire surface.
- Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the mashed potatoes.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
