Ingredients
For the Beef Layer:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
For the Mashed Potato Layer:
- 3 large potatoes, peeled and cubed
- ¼ cup butter
- ½ cup milk
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
For the Cheese Topping:
- 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
- ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Beef Layer:
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain excess grease.
- Add chopped onion and garlic, cooking until softened.
- Stir in tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- Prepare the Mashed Potatoes:
- Boil potatoes in salted water until fork-tender, about 15 minutes. Drain.
- Mash with butter, milk, salt, and pepper until smooth and creamy.
- Assemble the Bake:
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Spread the beef mixture evenly in a baking dish.
- Layer the mashed potatoes on top, spreading smoothly.
- Sprinkle cheddar cheese and Parmesan evenly over the potatoes.
- Bake & Serve:
- Bake uncovered for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Let cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
