Cheesy Beef and Mashed Potato Bake

Ingredients

For the Beef Layer:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper

For the Mashed Potato Layer:

  • 3 large potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • ¼ cup butter
  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper

For the Cheese Topping:

  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Beef Layer:
    • In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain excess grease.
    • Add chopped onion and garlic, cooking until softened.
    • Stir in tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  2. Prepare the Mashed Potatoes:
    • Boil potatoes in salted water until fork-tender, about 15 minutes. Drain.
    • Mash with butter, milk, salt, and pepper until smooth and creamy.
  3. Assemble the Bake:
    • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
    • Spread the beef mixture evenly in a baking dish.
    • Layer the mashed potatoes on top, spreading smoothly.
    • Sprinkle cheddar cheese and Parmesan evenly over the potatoes.
  4. Bake & Serve:
    • Bake uncovered for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
    • Let cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
