Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) instant yeast
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¾ cup warm milk (110°F / 45°C)
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1 egg
- 1 ½ cups shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a mix)
- 2 tablespoons softened butter (for brushing)
- Optional: garlic powder, parsley flakes, or chili flakes for extra flavor
Instructions
- Activate Yeast:
In a bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy. - Make Dough:
In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg. Mix until a soft dough forms. Knead for 8–10 minutes by hand or 5 minutes with a stand mixer until smooth. - First Rise:
Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size. - Shape Rolls:
Punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle (about ¼ inch thick). Sprinkle shredded cheese evenly over the dough. Roll it up tightly like a jelly roll and slice into equal pieces (about 1 to 1.5 inches thick). - Second Rise:
Place the rolls in a greased baking dish or tray. Cover and let them rise again for 20–30 minutes. - Bake:
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 18–22 minutes or until golden brown and cheese is bubbling. - Finish:
Brush hot rolls with softened butter and sprinkle with optional herbs or seasoning.
