Ingredients
- 3 large potatoes (Russet or Yukon Gold), peeled and cut into thin fries
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or mozzarella for a stretchy texture)
- 2 tablespoons cornflour or all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika or chili flakes (optional)
- 1 tablespoon cooking oil or melted butter
- Salt to taste
- Black pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
- Oil for deep frying or baking
Instructions
- Wash and cut the potatoes into thin, even fries, then soak them in cold water for about 20 minutes to remove excess starch. Drain and pat dry thoroughly with a clean towel.
- In a large bowl, mix the fries with cornflour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper until evenly coated. Heat oil in a deep pan or preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) if baking.
- Fry the potatoes in hot oil until golden brown and crispy, or bake them on a parchment-lined tray for 25–30 minutes, flipping halfway. Remove and let them rest on a paper towel.
- Heat a non-stick pan on medium flame and lightly grease it with oil or butter. Add a thin layer of shredded cheese to the pan to form a crust.
- Once the cheese begins to melt and bubble, quickly place the fries on top and gently press them down to stick. Allow the cheese to crisp for 1–2 minutes before flipping or removing from heat.
- Transfer the cheese crusted fries to a plate, garnish with chopped parsley, and serve immediately with ketchup, ranch, or spicy mayo.
