Caramel & Chocolate Slice Recipe

Ingredients:

For the Base:

  • 1 cup (135g) plain flour
  • ½ cup (100g) brown sugar
  • ½ cup (45g) coconut
  • 125g melted butter
  • ⅓ cup (130g) golden syrup

For the Caramel:

  • 790g sweetened condensed milk
  • 125g butter

For the Chocolate Topping:

  • 250g milk chocolate
  • 20g vegetable oil

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Base:

  • Preheat your oven to 160°C (320°F).
  • Line a 20x28cm rectangular baking tin with baking paper.
  • In a bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, and coconut.  
  • Add the melted butter and golden syrup, and mix until well combined.
  • Press the mixture into the prepared tin, ensuring an even layer.
  • Bake for 15 minutes, or until lightly golden.

2. Make the Caramel:

  • In a saucepan, combine the sweetened condensed milk and butter.
  • Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and turns a golden brown color. This may take about 10-15 minutes.
  • Pour the caramel over the cooled base and spread evenly.

3. Add the Chocolate Topping:

  • Melt the milk chocolate and vegetable oil together in a microwave-safe bowl, stirring every 30 seconds until smooth.  
  • Pour the melted chocolate over the caramel and spread evenly.

4. Set and Serve:

  • Refrigerate the slice for at least 1 hour, or until the chocolate is set.  
  • Cut into squares and serve.
