  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt

For the Caramel Sauce:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Make the Cake Batter:
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla.
  • In another bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.
  1. Bake the Cakes:
  • Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  1. Make the Caramel Sauce:
  • In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the sugar, stirring constantly until it turns a golden amber color.
  • Carefully add the butter and stir until melted.
  • Slowly add the heavy cream (it will bubble) and stir until smooth. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla and salt.
  1. Assemble the Cake:
  • Once the cakes are cool, place one layer on a serving plate.
  • Drizzle some caramel sauce over the top, then place the second layer on top.
  • Drizzle the remaining caramel sauce over the top and sides of the cake.
  1. Serve: Slice and enjoy your delicious caramel cake!
