Ingredients

For the Cake Batter:

  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter
  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan or two 9-inch round pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, beat the eggs until frothy. Gradually add the sugar and continue beating until the mixture is thick and pale.
  3. Stir in the melted butter and vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the egg mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined—do not overmix.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan(s) and smooth the top.
  7. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn it out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
