Cake Mix Toffee Bars

Ingredients

  • 1 box yellow cake mix
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup toffee bits (like Heath bits)
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional, for added flavor)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan or line with parchment paper.
  2. Make the dough:
In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, melted butter, and egg. Mix until a thick dough forms.
  3. Press into pan:
Spread the dough evenly into the prepared baking pan using your hands or a spatula.
  4. Top with mix-ins:
Sprinkle chocolate chips, toffee bits, and nuts (if using) evenly over the top. Lightly press them into the dough.
  5. Bake:
Bake for 22–25 minutes or until the edges are golden and the center is set. Don’t overbake—slightly gooey is perfect!
  6. Cool and cut:
Allow bars to cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares or bars.

Tip: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
