Breakfast Casserole Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 loaf of French bread, cubed  
  • 1 pound sausage, cooked and crumbled  
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 8 eggs, beaten
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions:

  1. Prep the Bread: Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish. Spread the cubed bread evenly in the bottom of the dish.
  2. Layer the Ingredients: Top the bread with the cooked sausage, then sprinkle with both cheeses.
  3. Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, and pepper.  
  4. Pour Over: Pour the egg mixture evenly over the layered ingredients in the baking dish.  
  5. Bake: Cover the dish with foil and bake in a preheated 350°F (175°C) oven for 45 minutes.
  6. Uncover and Finish: Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the casserole is set and golden brown.

Tips:

  • For a spicier casserole, use hot sausage.
  • Add your favorite vegetables like spinach, peppers, or onions.
  • Customize with different cheeses, such as Swiss or Gruyère.
  • Serve with syrup, fruit, or a side of toast.
