Ingredients

  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F / 43°C)
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp butter, softened
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, add flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture, egg, and butter.
  3. Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes (or use a mixer with a dough hook) until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1–1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough and shape into a loaf (or rolls). Place into a greased loaf pan or baking dish.
  6. Cover and let rise again for 30–40 minutes.
  7. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 25–30 minutes, until golden brown on top.
  8. Brush with melted butter after baking for extra softness.
