Ingredients
- 4 medium potatoes
- 1 lb ground beef (or pre-cooked meatballs)
- 1 cup shredded cheese (such as Gruyère, Swiss, or mozzarella)
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Potatoes:
- Peel the potatoes and cut them into thin slices, about 1/4 inch thick.
- Place the sliced potatoes into a pot of salted water and bring to a boil.
- Boil the potatoes for about 10-12 minutes or until they are just tender but not falling apart. Drain and set aside.
- Cook the Meatballs:
- If using ground beef, form small meatballs and cook them in a skillet over medium heat until browned and cooked through.
- If using pre-cooked meatballs, simply heat them in a pan until warmed through.
- Assemble the Dish:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Grease a baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
- Layer the boiled potato slices at the bottom of the dish.
- Scatter the cooked meatballs on top of the potatoes.
- Pour the heavy cream evenly over the layers.
- Sprinkle the shredded cheese generously over the top.
- Bake:
- Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes or until the cheese is melted and golden brown on top.
- Serve:
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes.
- Garnish with fresh parsley, if desired.
- Serve hot as a hearty main dish or as a side to a French-inspired meal.
