Ingredients

  • 3 large potatoes
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon paprika (optional)
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Potatoes:
    • Peel the potatoes and grate them coarsely.
    • Place the grated potatoes in a bowl of cold water and rinse well to remove excess starch.
    • Drain and squeeze out as much water as possible using a clean kitchen towel.
  2. Mix the Batter:
    • In a large bowl, add the grated potatoes, crack in the egg, and add the flour, salt, pepper, and paprika (if using).
    • Mix everything together until well combined.
  3. Shape and Fry:
    • Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat.
    • Take a small handful of the potato mixture and press it together to form small flat patties or rough chips.
    • Carefully place them into the hot oil.
    • Fry for 3–4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  4. Drain and Serve:
    • Remove and drain on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
    • Season with extra salt if desired and serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
