INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup (200g) white sugar
  • 1 cup (220g) packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 cups (375g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 cups (340g) semisweet chocolate chips
  • Optional: 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cream the butter and sugars in a large bowl until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
  3. Add eggs and vanilla, beating until fully incorporated.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing just until combined.
  6. Stir in the chocolate chips (and nuts, if using).
  7. Scoop dough by rounded tablespoon onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing about 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake for 9–11 minutes or until the edges are golden but the centers are still soft.
  9. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
