Banana Pudding Recipe

This recipe delivers a creamy, dreamy dessert with layers of vanilla wafers, bananas, and a luscious custard sauce.

Ingredients:

  • For the Custard Sauce:
    • 3 cups milk
    • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
    • 1/4 cup cornstarch
    • 3 large egg yolks
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • For the Pudding:
    • 20-24 vanilla wafers
    • 3 ripe bananas, sliced
    • 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk  

Instructions:

  1. Make the Custard Sauce:
    • In a saucepan, whisk together milk, sugar, and cornstarch.
    • In a separate bowl, whisk together egg yolks and salt.
    • Gradually whisk a small amount of the hot milk mixture into the egg yolks to temper them.
    • Pour the tempered egg yolk mixture back into the saucepan with the remaining milk mixture.
    • Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and comes to a gentle boil.  
    • Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
    • Let the custard cool slightly, then cover and refrigerate until completely chilled.
  2. Assemble the Pudding:
    • In a serving dish, layer half of the vanilla wafers.
    • Top with half of the sliced bananas.
    • Pour half of the chilled custard sauce over the bananas.
    • Repeat the layers with the remaining vanilla wafers, bananas, and custard sauce.
  3. Finish and Serve:
    • Pour the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the top of the pudding.
    • Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.
    • Serve chilled and enjoy!
