Banana Bread Cinnamon Rolls

Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 2 ¼ tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • ¾ cup warm milk (110°F / 43°C)
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup melted butter
  • 1 large ripe banana, mashed
  • 1 egg
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 3 – 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour

For the Filling:

  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup softened butter

For the Cream Cheese Frosting:

  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tbsp butter, softened
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1–2 tbsp milk (for consistency)

Instructions

  1. Make the Dough:
    • In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
    • Add sugar, melted butter, mashed banana, egg, and salt. Mix well.
    • Gradually add flour, one cup at a time, until a soft dough forms.
    • Knead the dough on a floured surface for 6–8 minutes or until smooth and elastic.
    • Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  2. Prepare the Filling:
    • In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and cinnamon.
    • Punch down the dough and roll it into a 14×9-inch rectangle.
    • Spread softened butter over the dough, then sprinkle with cinnamon sugar mixture.
  3. Form the Rolls:
    • Starting from the long edge, roll up the dough tightly into a log.
    • Cut into 12 equal rolls and place them in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
    • Cover and let rise again for 30–40 minutes.
  4. Bake:
    • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Bake for 20–25 minutes, until rolls are golden brown.
  5. Make the Frosting:
    • Beat cream cheese, butter, and vanilla until smooth.
    • Add powdered sugar and beat until fluffy.
    • Mix in milk, a tablespoon at a time, to reach desired consistency.
  6. Serve:
    • Spread frosting over warm rolls and enjoy!
