Baked Casserole Dish (Shepherd’s Pie Style)

Ingredients

  • 500 g (1 lb) ground beef or lamb
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup frozen mixed vegetables (peas, carrots, corn)
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste or ketchup
  • 1 cup beef or chicken broth
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp paprika (optional)
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes (prepared)
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • ½ cup shredded cheese (optional for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet, cook ground meat over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add chopped onion and garlic; cook until softened.
  4. Stir in mixed vegetables, tomato paste, broth, salt, pepper, and paprika. Simmer for 5–7 minutes until slightly thickened.
  5. Transfer meat-vegetable mixture to a greased casserole dish.
  6. Spread mashed potatoes evenly over the top, smoothing with a spoon.
  7. Dot with butter and sprinkle shredded cheese (if using).
  8. Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
  9. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Would you like me to make it with chicken instead of beef/lamb (a creamy version), or keep it classic like above?
