Ingredients
- 2 lbs ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 egg
- ½ cup breadcrumbs (or crushed crackers)
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce (optional, for flavor)
- 2 cans (10.5 oz each) cream of mushroom soup
- ½ cup milk or water (to thin the soup slightly)
- Optional: sliced mushrooms for extra texture
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Patties
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, onion, egg, breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce.
- Mix gently until combined — don’t overwork the meat.
- Shape into 6–8 patties and place them in a greased glass baking dish.
Step 2: Add the Sauce
- In a separate bowl, mix cream of mushroom soup with milk or water until smooth.
- Pour evenly over the patties, spreading with a spoon to cover.
- Add extra sliced mushrooms if desired.
Step 3: Bake
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake an additional 15–20 minutes, until patties are cooked through and the sauce is bubbling.
Step 4: Serve
- Spoon patties onto plates and top with the creamy mushroom gravy.
- Serve with mashed potatoes, rice, or buttered noodles for a complete meal.
- Garnish with fresh parsley if you like a pop of color.
Tips
- For richer flavor, brown the patties in a skillet before baking.
- You can substitute cream of chicken soup for a lighter variation.
- Leftovers reheat well and make a great next-day lunch.
