This easy-to-make slab pie is perfect for a crowd or a potluck. It’s packed with juicy apples and topped with a buttery crumble.
Ingredients:
- For the Filling:
- 6-8 medium apples (such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Braeburn), peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- For the Crumble Topping:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
- 1/4 cup rolled oats (optional)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Filling: In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, sugar, flour, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and lemon juice. Toss to coat evenly.
- Prepare the Crumble Topping: In a separate bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and butter. Use your fingers or a pastry blender to cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the oats, if using.
- Assemble the Pie: Spread the apple mixture evenly in a 9×13 inch baking dish. Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apples.
- Bake: Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 40-45 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.
- Cool and Serve: Let the pie cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
