  • 2 ready-made pie crusts (or homemade)
  • 4–5 medium apples (Granny Smith or your favorite), peeled, cored, and sliced
  • Β½ cup sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour (for thickening)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ΒΌ tsp nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 egg + 1 tbsp water (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 Β°F (190 Β°C).
  2. In a large bowl, toss apple slices with sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice until evenly coated.
  3. Roll out one pie crust and fit it into a 9-inch pie dish. Trim any excess dough.
  4. Spoon the apple filling into the crust and dot with butter pieces.
  5. Place the second crust on top (or make a lattice design). Seal and crimp the edges. Cut small slits in the top crust to let steam escape.
  6. Brush the top with the egg wash for a golden color.
  7. Bake for 45–55 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the filling is bubbling.
  8. Cool for at least 30 minutes before slicing.
