Apple Dumplings Recipe

Apple dumplings are a comforting and delicious dessert made with whole apples, wrapped in a buttery pastry, and baked to perfection. Served with a sweet syrup, they are perfect for a cozy autumn evening or any time you’re craving a warm, homemade treat.

Ingredients:

  • 6 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well)
  • 2 sheets of puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1 egg (beaten for egg wash)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Prepare the Apples: Peel and core the apples, making sure to leave the apples whole.
  3. Roll out the Pastry: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry and cut each sheet into 3 equal squares. You’ll have 6 squares in total.
  4. Wrap the Apples: Place one peeled apple in the center of each puff pastry square. Fill the core of each apple with a little bit of cinnamon and brown sugar. Wrap the pastry around the apple, pinching the edges together at the top to seal it completely.
  5. Make the Syrup: In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the water, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), and vanilla. Stir until the sugar has dissolved and the mixture becomes syrupy, about 5 minutes.
  6. Bake the Dumplings: Place the wrapped apples in a greased baking dish. Pour the syrup over the apples. Brush the tops of the dumplings with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
  7. Bake: Bake for 35-40 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown and crispy, and the apples are tender.
  8. Serve: Let cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your apple dumplings warm, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of the syrup from the pan.

Enjoy!
