Apple Cinnamon Cake Recipe

A warm and comforting cake, perfect for fall. This moist and flavorful cake is topped with a sweet and tangy apple cinnamon crumble.

Ingredients:

For the Cake:

  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar  
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup buttermilk  
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

For the Apple Cinnamon Crumble:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup packed light brown sugar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 2 large apples, peeled, cored, and diced

Instructions:

Make the Cake:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla.  
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with buttermilk. Mix until just combined.  
  5. Pour batter into prepared pan.

Make the Crumble:

  1. In a medium bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  2. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Toss apple cubes with 1 tablespoon flour to coat.
  4. Sprinkle apple mixture over cake batter. Top with crumble mixture.

Bake:

  1. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  2. Let cool completely before slicing and serving.
