Apple Cake Recipe

A classic and delicious apple cake with a moist crumb and sweet cinnamon flavor.

Ingredients:

  • For the Cake:
    • 2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 2 teaspoons baking powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 1 cup granulated sugar
    • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
    • 1 large egg
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 1 cup milk
    • 3 medium apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and sliced
  • For the Topping:
    • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
    • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
    • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. Combine dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cream butter and sugar: In a separate bowl, cream together softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add wet ingredients: Beat in egg and vanilla extract until combined.
  5. Alternate adding dry and wet ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients alternately with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.  
  6. Fold in apples: Gently fold in the sliced apples.
  7. Prepare topping: In a small bowl, combine sugar, flour, and cinnamon for the topping.
  8. Pour batter and top: Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the batter.
  9. Bake: Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  10. Cool and serve: Let the cake cool in the pan for a few minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.
