Amish Hamburger Steak Bake

Ingredients

For the Hamburger Steaks:

  • 2 lbs ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup bread crumbs or crushed crackers
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp paprika (optional)

For the Gravy Sauce:

  • 1 packet brown gravy mix (or homemade)
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup beef broth or water
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp ketchup (optional for tang)
  • ½ tsp onion powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, onion, garlic, egg, bread crumbs, salt, pepper, and paprika. Mix until well combined.
  3. Shape into 6–8 oval patties (like mini meatloafs or steaks) and place them in a greased 9×13 baking dish.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix together the gravy mix, cream of mushroom soup, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup (if using), and onion powder until smooth.
  5. Pour the gravy mixture evenly over the hamburger patties.
  6. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  7. Remove foil and bake uncovered for an additional 15 minutes, or until patties are fully cooked and sauce is bubbly.
  8. Let rest 5 minutes before serving. Serve over mashed potatoes, noodles, or rice for a hearty meal.
