Amish Apple Fritter Recipe

Delightfully crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, these Amish-style apple fritters are packed with juicy apple bits and a sweet cinnamon glaze. Perfect for breakfast or as a comforting treat!

Ingredients:

  • 2 large apples (peeled, cored, and diced)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola oil)

For the Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tbsp milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Apples:
In a medium bowl, toss the diced apples with 1 tablespoon of sugar and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon. Set aside.
  2. Mix the Batter:
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and the remaining 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and melted butter. Gradually combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients, stirring just until moistened. Gently fold in the apples.
  3. Heat the Oil:
Heat about 2 inches of oil in a deep skillet or pot over medium heat (around 350°F). To check if the oil is ready, drop a small piece of batter in—it should sizzle and rise to the surface.
  4. Fry the Fritters:
Drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown. Remove the fritters from the oil and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
  5. Make the Glaze:
While the fritters cool slightly, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Adjust the consistency by adding more milk if needed.
  6. Glaze the Fritters:
Drizzle the glaze over the warm fritters or dip them directly into the glaze. Let them sit for a few minutes to allow the glaze to set.
  7. Serve and Enjoy!
Serve the fritters warm and enjoy their crispy, sweet goodness!
