Delightfully crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, these Amish-style apple fritters are packed with juicy apple bits and a sweet cinnamon glaze. Perfect for breakfast or as a comforting treat!
Ingredients:
- 2 large apples (peeled, cored, and diced)
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 2 large eggs
- 3/4 cup whole milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp melted butter
- Oil for frying (vegetable or canola oil)
For the Glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2-3 tbsp milk
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions:
- Prepare the Apples:
In a medium bowl, toss the diced apples with 1 tablespoon of sugar and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon. Set aside. - Mix the Batter:
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and the remaining 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and melted butter. Gradually combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients, stirring just until moistened. Gently fold in the apples. - Heat the Oil:
Heat about 2 inches of oil in a deep skillet or pot over medium heat (around 350°F). To check if the oil is ready, drop a small piece of batter in—it should sizzle and rise to the surface. - Fry the Fritters:
Drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown. Remove the fritters from the oil and drain on a paper towel-lined plate. - Make the Glaze:
While the fritters cool slightly, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Adjust the consistency by adding more milk if needed. - Glaze the Fritters:
Drizzle the glaze over the warm fritters or dip them directly into the glaze. Let them sit for a few minutes to allow the glaze to set. - Serve and Enjoy!
Serve the fritters warm and enjoy their crispy, sweet goodness!
