A Hearty and Comforting Dish
Ingredients:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1 (15 ounce) can tomato paste
- 1 (15 ounce) can kidney beans, rinsed and drained
- 1 (15 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 cup elbow macaroni
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions:
- Brown the meat: In a large pot or Dutch oven, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Drain off any excess grease.
- Sauté the vegetables: Add the onion, bell pepper, and garlic to the pot. Sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Combine ingredients: Stir in the tomato sauce, tomato paste, kidney beans, crushed tomatoes, macaroni, oregano, basil, black pepper, and salt.
- Simmer: Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer, covered, for 30-40 minutes, or until the macaroni is cooked through and the flavors have blended.
- Serve: Serve hot with your favorite side dishes, such as garlic bread or a green salad.
Tips:
- For a spicier goulash, add a pinch of red pepper flakes or a chopped jalapeño pepper.
- To make a vegetarian version, substitute the ground beef with crumbled plant-based ground meat or lentils.
- Feel free to customize this recipe by adding other vegetables, such as corn, carrots, or zucchini.
