- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
- 1/2 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup melted butter, divided
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup brown sugar (for filling)
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
- 1 cup cream cheese (for frosting)
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk (for frosting)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough:
- In a small bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center, then pour in the yeast mixture, eggs, and 1/4 cup of melted butter.
- Mix until a dough forms, then knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Prepare the Filling:
- In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, cinnamon, and chopped nuts (if using).
- Assemble the Rolls:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a large rectangle, about 12×18 inches.
- Brush the dough with the remaining 1/4 cup of melted butter, then sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the dough.
- Starting from one edge, tightly roll the dough into a log, then slice it into 12 even pieces.
- Place the cinnamon rolls in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, leaving a little space between each roll. Cover and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
- Bake the Rolls:
- Bake the cinnamon rolls in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until they are golden brown on top.
- Make the Frosting:
- While the rolls are baking, prepare the frosting by whisking together the cream cheese, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Frost and Serve:
- Once the rolls are done baking, remove them from the oven and immediately spread the cream cheese frosting over the warm rolls.
- Serve and enjoy these absolutely sinful cinnamon rolls!
