Ingredients
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef or lamb
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 carrots, diced
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 2 tbsp flour
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 2 cups mashed potatoes (prepared ahead)
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
- 2 tbsp butter
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook ground meat until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Add onions and carrots; sauté for 5 minutes until softened.
- Stir in tomato paste and flour, cooking for 1 minute.
- Pour in broth and Worcestershire sauce. Season with salt and pepper. Simmer until thickened, about 5–7 minutes.
- Spread meat mixture into a baking dish.
- Top evenly with mashed potatoes. Dot with butter and sprinkle cheese on top if using.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes or until golden and bubbling.
- Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
