2 cups water or almond milk (or any milk of choice)
1/2 tsp cinnamon (optional for extra flavor)
A pinch of salt
1/2 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
Chopped nuts or seeds (optional, for topping)
Instructions
Prepare the Oatmeal: In a medium saucepan, combine the oats, water (or milk), and a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat to low. Simmer for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the oats are soft and the liquid is absorbed.
Add Apples and Carrots: While the oats are cooking, peel and chop the apples and grate the carrots. Once the oatmeal is nearly cooked, add the apples and grated carrots to the pan. Stir to combine. Continue to cook for another 3-4 minutes, allowing the apples to soften slightly and the carrots to mix in well.
Flavoring: Add cinnamon and vanilla extract (if using) to the mixture and stir well. Taste and adjust the sweetness if desired, as the apples and carrots will naturally add some sweetness without any sugar.
Serve: Once everything is well-combined and heated through, serve your oatmeal in bowls. Top with chopped nuts or seeds for a crunchy texture, if desired.
Enjoy: A hearty, naturally sweetened breakfast that’s sugar-free and full of nutrients!
